The Barsbay earrings take their inspiration from the main star pattern of the minbar standing today in the funerary khanqah of Sultan al-Ashraf Barsbay, made in 1439. The earrings are adorned in the center with Rubies and Amethysts mimicking the mosaic work decorating the central star of the minbar. A famous Mamluk doorknocker crafted in the mid 14th century and made for the monumental doors of the madrasa of Sultan Hassan
